Our client, a well-established law firm based in Birmingham, is looking for an experienced Legal Secretary to join their Litigation department.
This is a brand-new opportunity, reporting directly to a Business Partner, where you’ll support key client relationships and play a vital role in the firm’s ongoing success. The ideal candidate will be proactive, organised, and experienced in a similar legal environment.
As Legal Secretary, your tasks include:
- Produce correspondence and legal documents via audio typing and word processing, using templates where needed.
- Manage case files and documents electronically, ensuring accurate storage and organisation.
- Handle daily admin: scanning, printing, photocopying, and managing post, DX, email, and fax.
- Open and close files, prepare client care letters, and maintain filing/archiving systems.
- Schedule appointments, manage diaries, and coordinate meetings for fee earners.
- Liaise professionally with clients in person and over the phone.
- Ensure compliance with Lexcel and internal procedures, including time recording and billing.
- Maintain confidentiality and always adhere to legal protocols.
- Support wider Litigation team with ad hoc tasks and a flexible, team-focused approach.
About you:
- Previous experience as a legal secretary, ideally in litigation.
- Proficient in digital dictation tools and Microsoft Office.
- Typing speed of 65+ wpm with at least 90% accuracy.
- High attention to detail in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Strong communicator – confident and calm under pressure.
- Well-organised with excellent time management skills.
- Collaborative, solutions-focused, and comfortable working in a professional legal setting.
- Understanding of fee-earners’ work and ability to provide proactive support.
This is a full-time, permanent position, Monday to Friday, offering a salary of up to £30,000 per annum.
