Role Purpose: To lead the engineering requirements of the business, including the improvement of current manufacturing activities and the introduction of new products and processes by providing the technical, project management, and engineering expertise to deliver business growth. The primary business involves steel and aluminium processing and fabrication, including laser cutting, pressing, bending, welding, polishing, painting, and assembly – therefore, knowledge in these processes is essential.

To be responsible for the management of a small engineering team and provide engineering expertise to the business, ensuring operational excellence to strict time, cost, and quality requirements.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Ideally time served, have qualifications in an engineering discipline, or have significant relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years in a manufacturing environment and able to demonstrate expertise in all of the key business processes.
  • Demonstrate ability to introduce new equipment, jigs, tooling, and processes.
  • Lead and support Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement activities in Manufacturing.
  • Ability to optimize facility layouts, production lines, machine operations, and workflows.
  • Be quality-driven and possess excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.
  • Have proven capability in the use of relevant software packages including CAD (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Demonstrate effective project management, time management, and strong communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership and teamwork skills – the ability to work with internal cross-functional teams and external clients and customers.

Main Duties:

  • Lead the specification of new jigs, tooling, and equipment plus product and process design.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, implement, and effectively transfer the manufacturing process from engineering to production, achieving required levels of output, quality, and efficiency.
  • Provide technical support to production and engineering staff in the operation and maintenance of jigs, tooling, and assembly equipment.
  • Maintain adherence to APQP documentation, systems, and procedures throughout and lead DFMEA, PFMEA, and DFMA activities.
  • Analyze and report on production processes, methods, schedules, downtime, cycle times, availability of machines, and waste management.
  • Fully support the RFQ process to ensure business requirements are covered.
  • Lead Process Engineering projects and improvement activities.
  • Create Project Timing Plans and ensure that projects are delivered to plan.
  • Creation and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Always ensure compliance with the requirements of H&S and Quality Management Systems.
  • Support the training and development of associates as required.
